Thoughts on Kali's acts of kindness

On reading Lauren Kali's thoughts on kindness, I thought I'd share one of my favorites.  My daughter and I were in New York city, had been walking all day, cold and rainy.  We decided to take a cab to dinner.  "Carmine's" we directed the cab driver.  We got to chatting and before we knew it, we were almost in Greenwich Village.  Who knew there were two Carmines?  When we explained to the cab driver we meant the Carmine's near Times Square, he seemed perplexed.  He turned the cab around and drove us all the way back.  Here's where the act of kindness comes in.  He stopped the meter down in the village.  I tried to over tip him a bit, but he would have none of that.  So there you have it, a random act of kindness from a New York City cab driver of all people.

Here's another surprising NYC kindness story. I worked in Manhattan while I was pregnant with my first daughter. I would leave work and get on the subway for one stop before switching trains. I really didn't NEED a seat for such a short ride, but more often than not somebody would offer me his seat. And who would it likely be? Believe it or not, most often it was a young male, many times a Hispanic, who would offer me his seat. It surprised me and made me smile every time!
